YAM Tunku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir (14 January 1948-) is the only son of Tuanku Munawir ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar (hereditary ruler) of the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan from 1960 to 1967, and of his consort, Tunku Ampuan Durah binti Almarhum Tunku Besar Burhanuddin. On 29 December 2008, The Council of Undang proclaimed him as a new Yang Di Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan succeeding Almarhum Tuanku Jaafar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman who had passed away on 27 December 2008. It has been learnt that many prominent Malaysian had backed Tunku Muhriz to succeed as Negri Ruler suitable with his modest personality and a successful corporate man. His Royal Highness was born on 14 January 1948 and received his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah King George V, Seremban before pursued his LLB at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.
HRH Tunku Muhriz is married to Terengganu Royalty Tengku Datuk Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud where the royal couple have three children: Tunku Ali Redhauddin Muhriz, 31, Tunku Zain Al’Abidin Muhriz, 26, and Tunku Alif Hussein Saifuddin Al-Amin, 23. At this moment, His Royal Highness is a member of Bangkok Bank board of directors.
Created Tunku Besar, or heir presumptive, in 1960, Tunku Muhriz was by-passed by the Council of Undang upon his father's death. The Negeri Sembilan Constitution states that the order of succession is the sons of the Ruler, followed by grandsons of the Ruler, followed by brothers of the Ruler, followed by sons of the brother of the Ruler. Tunku Muhriz was the first in the order of succession before the death of Tuanku Munawir, followed by Tunku Ja'afar and Tunku Abdullah. Upon the death of Tuanku Munawir, Tunku Muhriz was not chosen. The council chose his half-uncle Tuanku Jaafar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, a diplomat. It has been suggested that the then-Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman, instructed the council not to choose Tunku Muhriz on account of his youth (he was then eighteen).
On 29 Dicember 2008, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, 60, has been proclaimed as the 11th Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
